Prayers at Rushall Parish

A reflective prayer

It's so easy for us, O God,
to think wearily that the wine has run out,
that the good things have gone,
and that nothing more is to be done.
We forget even to turn to you with the problems that face us,
but resign ourselves to what seems inevitable.
Like Mary at Cana,
help us in quiet trust to bring our concerns,
unsure though we may be
how you will address them.
Convinced of your longing to celebrate with us
the life you offer, in all its fullness.
May we be ready to receive your rich blessings
and to rejoice.
We ask it in the name of Jesus,
our teacher and friend.
Amen.

Previous Prayers

A prayer for the week

Here I am, Lord.
Speak, for your servant is listening.
Act, for your servant is waiting.
This week, I want to be attentive to you;
I am listening, watching, waiting for you.
Come, Holy Spirit.
Amen.

A prayer for the week ahead

Lord, thank you for this special time of year.
I sometimes feel as though I have been dragged
through a hedge backwards to get to this point.
But I also know it’s not too late
to take a moment to myself today
and thank you, Lord, for the wonder
I feel every time the Christmas story unfolds.
Help me to do just that
so I can come back to the celebrations
full of your love, peace and joy.
Amen.

A Christmas Prayer

God of Christmas,
we unwrap our presents –
help us to remember those who have nothing.
As we eat our festive food –
help us to remember those who are hungry.
We have fun with our friends and family –
help us to remember those who are lonely.
We think about the birth of Jesus in a stable –
help us to remember all animals, and to be kind to them.
We reflect that Mary gave birth a long way from home –
help us to remember those in refugee camps today.
As we enjoy being around those we love, in our happiness –
help us to remember all who are sad today,
and entrust them to you.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.

A prayer for the third week of Advent

Gracious God, grant me this Advent:
the courage to speak out the names that you have given me:
servant, child, friend;
the strength to live out my calling with humility at church, at
work, at home;
the grace to point others to you prayerfully, confidently,
honestly.
I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

A prayer for the week

Lord, my God, just as a single flame can light a whole room,
may this single prayer bring
light into the dark places of the world,
hope in the despairing places,
comfort in the suffering places,
and beauty in the wild places.
In Jesus’ name, I pray.
Amen.

For this first week of Advent

Lord, I give you my todays and my tomorrows to use and to bless. I offer my ‘nows’ for you to shape and strengthen. I bring myself as I truly am, rejoicing that you have called me to be your disciple through all the challenges and changes of life.
Amen.

For the week

O Lord, I am so bad at taking risks.
I am cautious and careful, not daring and decisive.
I am far more fearful than I am faithful.
Help me to look to your strength, not my weaknesses,
to your riches, not my poverty –
that I may fulfil your hopes for me,
to your glory and my joy.
Amen.

For the week

Lord, grant me:
courage to speak the truth when it is uncomfortable;
grace to live quietly when I would like to be noticed;
perseverance to do ordinary tasks well, rather than to seek glory in the spectacular;
confidence to entrust my strengths and weaknesses to you;
integrity to pray as I can, not as I think I ought to;
and the joy of knowing that
no praise, no privilege, no position
matter more than being surrounded
by your love and faithfulness every day.
Amen.

This Week

Lord, may your Spirit lead me into the field
to harvest the crops you have sown,
planted by those who believe in you,
and which grow amid the weeds:
a harvest of love and forgiveness,
a harvest of hope over despair,
a harvest of faithfulness and fruitfulness.
Amen

A prayer for the week

In the darkness and in the light,
may we see God together.
When things are sad or things are bright,
may we see God together,
With the angels and the saints in light,
may we see God together.
Amen.
