Prayers at Rushall Parish

For ourselves

Uphold my life, O God;
remind me of your faithfulness.
When I am overwhelmed,
anchor me to your hope.
When I feel weak and inadequate,
sustain and reassure me.
Remind me that in my weakness
you show your strength.
Give me a new perspective, I pray.
Amen.

Previous Prayers

When we feel discouraged

Lord, following you can feel difficult.
Often my heart is in the wrong place;
my eyes keep wandering away from you.
But you call me to utter commitment –
to take up my cross and come after you.
Give me courage to go wherever you lead me.
Amen.

As we enter autumn

Lord, where my heart feels dry,
pour out your living water.
Where my soul feels sad,
apply the balm of your healing presence.
Where my eyes feel dim,
brighten my vision again.
Where life has held me captive,
break those ugly chains
and lead me into a renewed life of faith in you.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.

A prayer as a new academic year begins

Lord, for the times I pretend to be something I’m not –
forgive me.
Lord, at the times I cannot distinguish truth from lies –
guide me.
Lord, in the times I need to witness to your light –
empower me.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.

A prayer as the holidays draw towards their end

Lord, I know that if I trust you to protect me,
you will give me whatever I need to keep me safe,
and to keep me fighting on your side.
Thanks be to God.
Amen.

This week's prayer

O God, your love is my all.
It wraps me as a blanket, tight and secure.
It is the carpet I walk on, a spring to my step.
It is the breath that I breathe.
Thanks be to God. Amen.

A prayer as the holidays continue

Dear Lord, I ask you to forgive me for the times I don’t act in a way that honours you.
I know that sometimes I concentrate so much on getting the big things right
that I forget that the little and the in-between things matter just as much.
Help me to walk your way Lord.
Amen.

A prayer for the week

Your love, Lord, is greater than all knowledge,
greater than all words in any language,
greater than any picture a person can paint.
We praise you that you so freely share your bountiful love with us.
Your power is at work in us and we want more of you in our lives.
We praise you, Lord.
Amen.

A prayer for the week

Dear Lord, I might think that I can’t do much
to make the world a better and fairer place.
Help me to see myself as a little drop of rain
making ripples in a big puddle.
In your strength, and for your glory.
Amen.

For the week ahead

As a child reaches out to the security of a parent’s arms, so I reach out to you, my Father God. Wrap me in your loving strength, I pray.
Amen.

For the week

Lord, help me not to compare myself to others,
but to be positive about myself,
to rejoice in the gifts you have given me,
and to be willing to share them with others.
Amen.

A Prayer for the week ahead

Lord, take me by the hand and lead me.
Open my eyes that I may see,
my ears that I may hear,
my heart that I may love,
my whole being that I may serve you to the best of my ability.
You do not ask of me the impossible,
but you do ask that I do the best I can.
You are mine and I am yours. Amen.

For the week

I have waited, I do wait and I will wait, Lord.
But help me, while I wait, to do your will,
to be active for the eternal truths that are of you.
Amen.

The First Sunday after Trinity

Lord, I am grateful that you understand and know where I have come from, and what treasures and burdens I carry. I am grateful that you carry them with me.

A prayer for the week

When I hear your voice, Lord God,
when I hear you whispering my name,
when I hear you call ‘Whom shall I send?’ –
give me the courage, the love, the faith
to respond as Isaiah did: ‘Here am I; send me!’
Amen.

This week

Lord, I am not who I want to be…
well not always, maybe not often.
But you take me as I am, and you give to me.
Fill me with the urge to love more, to care more,
to know more, to share more - in your name.
Kindle within me the love I have of you,
that it may warm the hearts of those I know and love,
that I may pass the flame and share the gentle breeze,
and offer the peace of the reassuring dove.
I am not who I want to be…but you can transform me.
Make me who you want me to be.
Amen.

Seventh Week of Easter

I often am not sure I am worthy to be called a Christian.
I often am not sure I understand all it means.
I often am not sure I know myself.
I often am in turmoil over what is truth and what is not,
it’s hard to know.
Give me, O God, discernment
that I may live my life according to your will.
Amen.

For the Sixth Week of Easter

Just as I am, with the love I have,
with the love of you I know,
so guide me, God, in all I do and in all I am,
to bear fruit for you.
Amen.
