Prayers at Rushall Parish

As we get ever busier

Eternal God, you called John when he was in the wilderness, to prepare the way for your Son. Speak to me in my wildernesses of tiredness, anxiety and longing, and prepare a way in my heart, that I may receive the forgiveness, the healing, and the peace that your Son delights to give.
Amen.

Previous Prayers

For this first week of a new church year

Lord Jesus, on you the past and the future hinge.
You open the door to past wisdom and to future knowledge.
You are the kingdom among us and the kingdom yet to come.
May this Advent be as a new beginning in my walk of faith.
And, inspired by all those who have gone before me,
may my steps be bold, faithful and just.
I ask this in your name.
Amen.

For the week

Loving God, I place into your hands:
all my fears about the state of the world;
all my despair at the violence within the world;
all my concerns about the fragility of the environment;
all my worries about my own life;
all my doubts that you will stay faithful to your people.
Loving God, I place into your hands
today, tomorrow and all time.
Amen.

For this week

God of all,
I am neither rich nor poor, but comfortable –
may that not turn to complacency.
I cannot change very much, and I challenge very little –
may that not invite indifference.
I do not live sacrificially, but neither am I greedy –
may that not lead me to be satisfied.
I do my duty, no more, no less –
may I not avoid responsibility, but be your disciple in your world
today – generous, compassionate and far seeing. Amen.

A Prayer for the week

Loving God,
help me draw closer to your word,
that I may draw closer to others.
Help me listen to your promptings in my heart,
that I may serve others.
Help me build a rhythm of prayer,
that I may uphold others.
And help me to live out my days,
and set my words to the music of your love and grace,
that I might inspire others – in Jesus’ name.
Amen.

As the nights grow longer

God of restoration, change my heart, I pray.
Where tears haunt my steps, bring me out into a place of joy.
When confusion overtakes me, guide me into clarity.
When I feel I cannot walk at all, carry me, O loving God,
that I might be always in your presence and in your care.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.

A prayer for the week

Oh God, sometimes I am so aware of all the things I cannot do.
I feel tired, vulnerable and worry that my efforts are not worthwhile.
But you lift up my head.
And one touch of your love reminds me
that this is all about you.
I am here for you.
I am part of your plan,
and part of your family.
Help me to serve you today,
in my own small way.
For Jesus’ sake. Amen.

For the week

Challenge me, God,
where I have made too much of the ‘things’ in my life;
where I have hankered for that which does not satisfy,
and hoarded that which is not important.
Give me a new perspective –
help me to let go of that which
has had too much of a hold on me,
and instead, focus my heart on you.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.

A prayer for the week

Lord God,
help me to be a blessing.
Let me not be focused on seeking others’ approval,
but instead to reach out in love.
May love become my default setting,
so that, every day, my responses will become
more gracious,
more compassionate,
and more like you.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.

For ourselves

Uphold my life, O God;
remind me of your faithfulness.
When I am overwhelmed,
anchor me to your hope.
When I feel weak and inadequate,
sustain and reassure me.
Remind me that in my weakness
you show your strength.
Give me a new perspective, I pray.
Amen.

When we feel discouraged

Lord, following you can feel difficult.
Often my heart is in the wrong place;
my eyes keep wandering away from you.
But you call me to utter commitment –
to take up my cross and come after you.
Give me courage to go wherever you lead me.
Amen.

As we enter autumn

Lord, where my heart feels dry,
pour out your living water.
Where my soul feels sad,
apply the balm of your healing presence.
Where my eyes feel dim,
brighten my vision again.
Where life has held me captive,
break those ugly chains
and lead me into a renewed life of faith in you.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.

A prayer as a new academic year begins

Lord, for the times I pretend to be something I’m not –
forgive me.
Lord, at the times I cannot distinguish truth from lies –
guide me.
Lord, in the times I need to witness to your light –
empower me.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.

A prayer as the holidays draw towards their end

Lord, I know that if I trust you to protect me,
you will give me whatever I need to keep me safe,
and to keep me fighting on your side.
Thanks be to God.
Amen.

This week's prayer

O God, your love is my all.
It wraps me as a blanket, tight and secure.
It is the carpet I walk on, a spring to my step.
It is the breath that I breathe.
Thanks be to God. Amen.

A prayer as the holidays continue

Dear Lord, I ask you to forgive me for the times I don’t act in a way that honours you.
I know that sometimes I concentrate so much on getting the big things right
that I forget that the little and the in-between things matter just as much.
Help me to walk your way Lord.
Amen.

A prayer for the week

Your love, Lord, is greater than all knowledge,
greater than all words in any language,
greater than any picture a person can paint.
We praise you that you so freely share your bountiful love with us.
Your power is at work in us and we want more of you in our lives.
We praise you, Lord.
Amen.

A prayer for the week

Dear Lord, I might think that I can’t do much
to make the world a better and fairer place.
Help me to see myself as a little drop of rain
making ripples in a big puddle.
In your strength, and for your glory.
Amen.

For the week ahead

As a child reaches out to the security of a parent’s arms, so I reach out to you, my Father God. Wrap me in your loving strength, I pray.
Amen.

For the week

Lord, help me not to compare myself to others,
but to be positive about myself,
to rejoice in the gifts you have given me,
and to be willing to share them with others.
Amen.
