Prayers at Rushall Parish

As the holidays begin

My Saviour and my God,
amid life’s demanding pace
help me to give you first place,
with time to sit and seek your face;
my faith and hope secure in the riches of your grace.
Amen.

Previous Prayers

A prayer for the week

Lord, nudge me if I get so preoccupied with my own faith that I neglect to share it with those around me. Guide me in where and what to share, that I may bring your joy to others.
Amen.

A prayer for the week

Lord, remove my blinkers of selfish pride, that I may see the needs of others and sow with compassion your strength, love and peace as I journey in step with your Holy Spirit.
Amen.

A prayer to remeber others

Help me be a slave to others, Lord:
Supportive to those on the edge;
Loving to those who are hurting;
Available to those who need time;
Vociferous for those who need justice;
Encouraging to those who are low. Amen.

For the week ahead

Loving God, I entrust to you those times when I feel I have nothing to put on except
loneliness and disappointment,
frustration and staleness,
sadness and anger,
brokenness and failure.
Draw me back to your Word, your Son, your grace,
that I may find new confidence,
wear new colours,
try new styles,
and be most fully myself –
to your glory! Amen.

As summer draws on - hopefully!

God of all,
on my own I can’t manage – but with others and with you, I can!
On my own I won’t get far – but with others and with you, I will!
On my own I might fail – but with you and with others, I must try.
On my own I am empty – but with others and with you,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I am full!
Amen.

A prayer for Pentecost

God of all,
when we are tired, send your spirit of energy;
when we are jaded, send your spirit of refreshment;
when we are hesitant, send your spirit of confidence;
when we are complacent, send your spirit of challenge;
when we are afraid, send your spirit of courage;
when we are divided, send your spirit of unity;
when we are inward-looking, send your spirit of mission –
that your love and grace may spill out from us into your world.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.

As school's return and summer draws near

Lord Jesus, sometimes I feel so trapped.
Hope is trapped by past disappointments.
Confidence is trapped by past criticism or failures.
Trust is trapped by past betrayals.
Joy is trapped by past sadnesses.
Faith is trapped by past complacency.
Release me from all that traps me.
Free me to sing out the words of my life
to the music of your love.
Amen.

A prayer during the holiday week

God of openness and love, there have been times when we have wanted to be only with our own circle of friends, and have not been willing to look beyond ourselves to welcome others whom you love.
Forgive us, and unlock our hearts and minds, that we may be inclusive and daring, and willing to go where you would lead, and meet with those you have called; for the sake of your kingdom.
Amen.

A prayer during a time of challenges

God of all ages and all stability,
change can be exciting and threatening,
division can be dangerous and protective,
dogma can be safe and stifling,
difference can be fun and frightening.
Help me to discern the difference,
and to be a helper not a hinderer
to the work and growth and mission of your kingdom.
I ask this in Jesus’ name.
Amen.

A prayer of companionship

Thinking of our reading from Acts on Sunday 12th where Tabitha's friends mourn for her and summon Peter for comfort

God of hope and consolation,
when death comes to someone I love, may I be brave –
brave enough to cry,
brave enough to reach out for comfort,
brave enough to talk about the one I miss so much.
And may I be strong enough to ask for help,
strong enough to be there for others when they are
grieving too.
I ask this in the name of your risen Son, Jesus.
Amen.

A prayer for the week

Lord Jesus, please be gracious to me as you were to Peter, for I have denied you – in my heart, in my relationships, in my way of life. I have not lived as though I loved you.
And yet I do. I really do. I really do.
Call me by name, as you called Peter, that the sound of your voice may quieten my fears and restore my confidence. Wherever my journey takes me, whatever I am called to do, however many times I fall down.
Lord, hold out your hand to me, and be by my side, every day, every moment, every step.
Amen.

A prayer in troubled times

Come, Holy Spirit, bring peace in our world.
Bring peace in this nation.
Bring peace to my community.
Bring peace to my home.
Bring peace to my heart.
Come, Holy Spirit, come now.
Amen.

For Holy Week

We are sorry, gracious God,
for the times when we have praised you with our lips
but our actions have given the lie to our words.
We are sorry that sometimes the words that we speak
do not reflect the attitudes we hold.
We are sorry that our Sunday joy and resolution
do not always last the whole week through.
Forgive us, and enable us to be sincere,
genuine and consistent in our discipleship
– as your love is sincere, genuine and consistent.
Amen.

As we enter Passiontide

Lord, guide us,
as we press on towards the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus.
May we be single-minded in pressing ahead.
May we be strong in persevering,
and may we always be encouraged by you and your love.
Amen.

A prayer as we reach the halfr way point of Lent

Thank you, God, for loving me.
Forgive me, God, for turning away.
Thank you, God, for welcoming me back.
Amen.

As we near the half way point of Lent

We turn away from all that is wicked and unrighteous,
from all that causes pain and suffering to others and to God,
and from all that is not loving and caring.
We turn to you, O God, in your mercy.
We seek your abundant pardon.
We joyfully receive your forgiveness.
Amen.

For the second week of Lent

I am God’s child.
God loves me.
God will care for me – always.
Thank you, God.
Amen.

For the First Week of Lent

Give us the refuge we need, O loving God,
refuge beneath your wings.
Protect us from all that we fear, O faithful God,
by shielding us from danger.
Guard us from temptation, O gracious God,
that we may choose the right path.
Be with us, and make your presence known,
O compassionate God, on every step of life’s journey.
In Jesus’ name we pray.
Amen.

As we enter into March

When ailments beset me and I feel weak,
when illness knocks me off my feet,
when the years weigh upon me heavily
and my gait falters as I walk less steadily;
let me then remember, O Lord:
I shall be renewed, not just restored.
Amen.

As the days grow longer

Each day, Lord, help me to wake from sleep as I shall one day wake from death – in the knowledge of your presence and the hope of resurrection. So, may my faith shed light from another world, to lighten the cares of this one.
Amen
