Prayers at Rushall Parish

A prayer of gratitude

I am not worthy, yet you love me, God.
I do not deserve so much and yet I have it.
I have many needs and before you I acknowledge them;
fill my life with your presence,
that others too may come to know your healing balm.
Amen.

As more steps are taken towards a return to normal life

Sometimes, O God, I wish I was on my own, not troubled and disturbed by those around me, not jostled and tussled this way and that, but just left to my own devices. But I am not just me, I am part of the community in which I live. Give me patience with those around me, give me love and compassion for those in need, give me understanding of people who are so different from me and give me, above all else, a yearning to do your will.
Amen.

For all that is entrusted to me

Mighty God, I think about the keys I hold. Each one shows a responsibility of some kind. Thank you for all that you entrust me with. Thank you most of all for Jesus, who gives me the keys of the kingdom. Amen.

For valuing others

Lord, the Pharisees were offended by your words.
You could have been offended by the Canaanite woman’s words.
I ask that, as I go about my business, I will take the time to consider each person I meet as unique, special to you, and worthy of my listening ear.
May I not be offended just because something is out of my comfort zone. Amen.

A prayer for trust and peace

O Lord my God,
you are worthy to be praised.
You are the Son of God who walks on water,
who mesmerises huge crowds with powerful words,
but who also calms a frightened Peter –
and you calm me and give me peace.
Thank you, Lord.
Amen.

As holiday time comes

Lord, a new week lies ahead of me
and I don’t really know what it will bring.
Help me to be aware of people around me
who are struggling in any way.
May I be sensitive to their needs
and seek your wisdom as I come alongside them.
I want to be there for them, Lord, bearing your blessing.
Amen.

A prayer of thanks

Marvellous and mighty Lord,
we are forever grateful
for all the good gifts you give us,
for eyes to see,
for ears to hear,
for a brain to understand,
and a heart to love.
We praise you, Lord.
Amen.

As more restrictions are lifted

Lord, sometimes we are just so impatient,
wanting to get on with our lives,
wanting everything better.
But we know, our ways are not your ways.
We come to you
rejoicing in the knowledge that you
can transform our lives
and the lives of those around us –
starting exactly where we are.
Thank you, Lord.
Amen.

As life gets busy again

Lord God,
how can I possibly understand what you have to say to me,
if I don’t take time to listen.
Help me to carve out moments this week where,
even in my busyness, I can find a quiet corner,
or even just a glance heavenward,
to be with you.
Speak to me, Lord, and bless me;
and make me a blessing to others.
Amen.

As the country takes tentative steps towards returning to normality

Lord, you have called us to be your disciples.
Thank you for trusting us with this privilege.
Thank you for empowering us in the ways of service.
Thank you for giving us courage when we are fearful.
Thank you for your strength when we are vulnerable.
Thank you for knowing us, loving us, enhancing our lives.
Thank you, Lord.
Amen.

Lord, may I know your guidance as I seek to be a faithful disciple in the places to which you send me. Amen.
