Prayers at Rushall Parish

As we continue through Lent

God of covenant and cross,
you come alongside us and call us to follow,
to lay down all that belongs in the past,
all possessions, practices and prejudices,
so that we might lay hold of all that you promise.

God of covenant and cross,
you come alongside us and call us to follow,
to take up our cross of our own free will,
to carry it to the end that only you know,
so that we might lay hold of all that you promise.
Amen.

Previous Prayers

As we begin the journey of Lent

Creator God, you made us in your image
to be your people, wherever we go.
This coming week, whatever we experience,
wherever we find ourselves,
help us to know that you are with us –
guiding, revealing and sustaining – always.
Amen.

for determination

God of love,
your kindness is everlasting.
Surround us with your arms of love;
keep our eyes fixed on you
and make us ready to follow where you lead,
trusting that you will provide for us – today and always.
Amen.

for today

Loving Lord,
thank you that you meet us where we are,
in the middle and muddle of our daily tasks.
Help us to hear your call,
to recognise your voice,
and to respond to your invitation
to be with you now.
Amen.

On Epiphany

Lord of our journeys,
help us this day to have
eyes to see your leading,
ears to hear your guidance,
and a heart of courage,
that we may journey faithfully and find your way –
even when the path may seem difficult and dark.
Amen.

Amid the hustle and bustle of preparing for Christmas

God of timelessness,
you speak of eternity
and the things that do not fade.
In all the busyness of my week,
the importance of small things,
may I find time for the things that will last for ever,
especially loving-kindness.
Call me deeper into small moments
where I can find the light of love in unexpected places.
Because you are always to be found in unexpected places.

Amen.

To make time

Sometimes I am tired,
or I’m preoccupied with other demands.
Help me take time, help me make time, for kindness,
so that rush can take its lower place,
and kindness can rise up.
Because you had much to do –
but made time anyway.
Amen.

A prayer of readiness

Jesus, you were always ready
to hear the needs of those around you.
You turned to those who were used to being ignored.
I am sometimes ready and sometimes not.
And I am sometimes ignored and sometimes not.
In all these times, nurture my heart
so that I may seek you, and share you, all around.
Because you are all around.
Amen.

For valuing others

Lord, the Pharisees were offended by your words.
You could have been offended by the Canaanite woman’s words.
I ask that, as I go about my business, I will take the time to consider each person I meet as unique, special to you, and worthy of my listening ear.
May I not be offended just because something is out of my comfort zone. Amen.

A prayer for trust and peace

O Lord my God,
you are worthy to be praised.
You are the Son of God who walks on water,
who mesmerises huge crowds with powerful words,
but who also calms a frightened Peter –
and you calm me and give me peace.
Thank you, Lord.
Amen.
